The Magic of All-Day Comfort——Technology behind OpenFit 2+

The Magic of All-Day Comfort——Technology behind OpenFit 2+

Introduction

Have you ever felt soreness or pressure after wearing earbuds for an extended period? You’re not alone. And we knew there had to be a better way. That’s why the team at Shokz dedicated more than 700 days and thousands of hours to researching the problem at its root, testing more than 100 design iterations and collaborating with leading audiologists and ergonomics experts to find a solution. By diving deep into the biomechanics of the concha – the depressed area next to the ear canal – we’ve redefined what true comfort in audio wear feels like.

Ultra-Soft Comfort

In 2023, Shokz discovered a new way to make earbuds truly comfortable with the development of Ultra-Soft SiliconeTM. However, we didn’t stop there.

Our engineers pushed the limits even further and developed Ultra-Soft SiliconeTM 2.0, a material that’s almost as soft as a marshmallow or gummy bear, with a Shore 00 hardness of 16±3. It’s also safe, non-toxic, and sustainable, just like regular silicone.

OpenFit 2+ earbuds feature an inner layer of Ultra-Soft SiliconeTM 2.0, ensuring users a fit that’s much more snug and much more comfortable to wear, especially for longer periods of time.

Our Silicone Development History

2025:Shokz Ultra-Soft Silicone™ 2.0 – Shokz's Innovative New Soft Silicone Material

From material selection and inspection to production oversight, we spent nearly two years developing Ultra-Soft Silicone™ 2.0. It offers the same safety, non-toxicity, and sustainability as regular silicone, and it’s even softer than Ultra-Soft Silicone™ 1.0. We utilize this material in OpenFit 2 Series earbuds, our best earbuds for working out.

2023:Shokz Ultra-Soft Silicone™ 1.0 – First in Headphone Industry to Use Material That’s Texturally Similar to Skin

We found that comfort was a major pain point for many users. Therefore, our Shokz engineers developed a highly soft and elastic silicone material known as Ultra-Soft Silicone™ 1.0, commonly used to emulate the smooth, soft texture of human skin.

2018:Liquid Silicone – High-Precision Automated Molding Process

Shokz began using liquid silicone, a softer material than solid silicone that’s now used as the exterior material for most of Shokz's headphones.

2016:Solid Silicone – One-Piece Molding Process

Shokz overcame the engineering challenges of integrating solid silicone, titanium wire, and other delicate components into a compact and functional design, representing a major technological breakthrough in incorporating silicone into bone conduction headphones.

Professional Workout Earbuds with Golden Fit

Inspired by the perfect dimensions of the golden spiral, OpenFit 2+ has a flexible ear-hook design that’s weight-optimized to provide slip-free stability. And its integrated Ni-Ti alloy frame molds to the contours of your ear for a more personalized, comfortable fit. Whether you're in the gym or going about your day, these earbuds can adapt to your movements and stay securely in place so you can focus on the things that really matter: your rhythm, your goals, and your day.

Big on Comfort, Light on Everything Else

At just 9.4g (0.33 oz) each, OpenFit 2+ earbuds are incredibly lightweight, keeping your ears fatigue-free whether you’re working out or running errands. They’re also crafted with an inner layer of Shokz Ultra-Soft Silicone™ 2.0, which has a Shore 00 hardness of 16±3. This is comparable to material widely used to produce baby pacifiers and other medical and cosmetic supplies, ensuring your OpenFit 2+ delivers a comfortable, natural fit that seamlessly blends into your everyday life.

Conclusion

Shokz is dedicated to providing the most comfortable open-ear listening experience to its users, and each product is rigorously tested with this goal in mind – the OpenFit 2+ is no exception. With its inner layer of Ultra-Soft SiliconeTM 2.0 and a new Dolphin Arc design inspired by the golden spiral, these earbuds are softer, more flexible, and more ergonomic than ever before.
