We know. The question on everyone’s mind is, “Should I buy AfterShokz Aeropex or Xtrainerz?” Luckily, we’re here to break it down for you. We’ll shed some light on the best style of AfterShokz for you, your listening needs, and your lifestyle.
Why Aeropex Are Great
AfterShokz Aeropex headphones are extremely versatile and are the perfect choice for most runners! Aeropex have the latest and greatest PremiumPitch 2.0+, which allows for higher volume and less vibration. That means you can rock your favorite tunes and podcasts with greater clarity and comfort on your rides and runs!
Aeropex also offer an eight-hour battery life for listening to music, audiobooks, podcasts, or calls, and a whopping 10 hours of standby time.
Aeropex are available in Cosmic Black or Lunar Grey, depending on your mood (or need for ninja-like stealth 😉).
Why Xtrainerz Are Great
Short answer: No. More. Boring. Laps.
AfterShokz Xtrainerz are the best wireless MP3 headphones out there, with enough storage (4 GB, or 1,200 songs!), battery life (eight hours!), and endurance (OK, that’s up to you) to withstand your longest swim sessions. Xtrainerz are perfect for anyone who’s training for a triathlon, using swimming to get a killer cardio and strength-building workout, or trying out swimming as a low-impact workout while injured. Prone to swimmer’s ear? Good news! Xtrainerz use open-ear technology, meaning they rest outside your ears and allow you to use earplugs to protect yourself without compromising your fave music.

Main Differences Between Aeropex and Xtrainerz
One of the main differences between Xtrainerz and Aeropex is that Xtrainerz are rated IP68 instead of IP67. The IP-68 rating allows you to swim in water up to 2 meters deep, for up to two hours, worry-free. That means lots of laps in the pool or kilometers in the lake while jamming out or listening to podcasts.
On the other hand, the IP67 rating means Aeropex can be submerged in water up to a meter deep safely for 30 minutes. It also means Aeropex are totally sweat-, rain-, and shower-proof.
Wait, you don’t listen to podcasts in the shower? Uh, you SHOULD.
The other main difference is that Xtrainerz store your audio content as MP3 files, rather than using a Bluetooth connection to play audio from your device. For those who want a versatile headphone that doesn’t require them to carry their phone, Xtrainerz are the answer.
Another advantage of MP3 storage over Bluetooth is that Bluetooth technology actually cannot pass a signal through water, so playing audio content from an MP3 source is the way to go while swimming.
Lastly, Aeropex charge via the provided magnetic charging cable. You can use your own charging base, but we do not recommend "fast chargers" such as Android or tablet chargers, as those can exceed the 1 amp or 5 volts maximum.
Be sure to allow ample time to air-dry your Aeropex prior to charging if they’ve collected moisture from rain or sweat (or the shower!). Should the headphones be connected to the charger while moisture still exists, the moisture detector will sound. If you ignore that sound and charge them anyway, there’s potential for the headphones to get damaged.
We’re huge fans of both Aeropex and Xtrainerz, and we love how they are both so different, yet so awesome! We hope this post helps you figure out which model fits best for YOUR lifestyle. If you’re looking for even more info, here are a few more resources to check out:
