Introduction
Released in August of 2024, the OpenRun Pro 2 is the flagship open-ear sports headphone from Shokz. It features 10th generation Bone Conduction Technology, up to 12 hours of battery life, and a secure open-ear fit that offers unparalleled comfort and situational awareness.
However, since its release, we’ve noticed that some users still prefer the pure bone conduction experience as opposed to the hybrid one from the OpenRun Pro 2’s dual-driver system, which combines both bone and air conduction technology. And we also noticed that a small number of users have had difficulty hearing clearly in noisy environments.
At Shokz, we value all feedback and work tirelessly to better support our users’ needs. In this article, we’ll discuss the new upgrades that address this feedback and explain how you can take advantage of them when listening to your OpenRun Pro 2.
New EQ Modes
OpenRun Pro 2 was initially equipped with 4 EQ modes – Standard, Vocal, Bass Boost, and Treble Boost – along with 2 customizable EQ profiles, to help optimize your listening experience across different genres. But now, we’ve added 2 new EQ modes: Classic and Volume Boost, both of which can be found in the Shokz App.
a. Classic Mode
For users who want to enjoy pure bone conduction audio, you can now deactivate the air-conduction driver by switching to the Classic EQ mode. This will provide a more traditional open-ear experience and is best suited for listening to audiobooks, podcasts, or spoken content. That said, using this mode will result in stronger vibrations and may consume more battery power than other settings that employ both drivers.
b. Volume Boost Mode
For noisy environments, or for those moments when you really want your music to bump, you can switch to the Volume Boost EQ mode. This increases the maximum volume output. To access this setting, make sure your Shokz App is updated to the latest version.
Before trying this, you should also make sure that the volume protection settings on your phone are disabled. For example, Apple has a “Reduce Loud Audio” feature that stops headphones from reaching their full volume. This could be the reason for lower volume levels.
To disable this setting on an iPhone, go to Settings > Sounds & Haptics > Headphone Safety, and then turn off “Reduce Loud Audio.”
To disable this on a Samsung phone, go to Settings > Sounds and Vibration > Volume. Then tap More and turn off “Media Volume Limit.”
To disable this on other Android phones, go to Bluetooth Settings and turn on “Absolute Volume.”
Highlights of OpenRun Pro 2
OpenRun Pro 2 has redefined open-ear audio through its groundbreaking innovation and it’s been recognized by a number of media outlets for its exceptional comfort and functionality. Some of its industry awards include a 2024 CNET Editors’ Choice Award and a 2025 Runner’s World Gear of the Year Award.
Here’s a breakdown of some its standout features:
a. Sound Quality
Through the power of DualPitch Technology, OpenRun Pro 2 delivers open-ear sound, unlike anything you’ve ever experienced. Its dual-driver system combines bone conduction – for crisp, clear mids and highs – with air conduction – for powerful bass. The result is a sound profile that’s both dynamic and balanced. Whether you’re hiking in the mountains or just running around your neighborhood, OpenRun Pro 2’s DualPitch Technology allows you to enjoy every nuance of your music, from subtle harmonies to powerful bass.
b. Comfort
Extended training sessions mean extended wearing sessions, which can sometimes lead to discomfort or chafing – but not with OpenRun Pro 2. Thanks to its ultra-lightweight, high-strength materials, and a soft silicone coating, OpenRun Pro 2 delivers a comfortable fit that feels weightless on your head. Plus, it comes in both standard and mini sizes, so every listener can experience a fit that’s just right.
c. Open-Ear Design
Unlike traditional headphones that block out external sounds, OpenRun Pro 2 keeps you connected to your environment through its open-ear design. This unique audio experience is perfect for outdoor runners, cyclists, and other fitness enthusiasts since it allows you to listen to your entertainment without having to sacrifice your safety and situational awareness. So you can enjoy the call of the wild when hiking isolated trails and stay alert to your surroundings when crossing busy streets, all while listening to your favorite playlists and podcasts.
d. Stability
Crafted with ergonomic ear hooks and a unibody frame, the OpenRun Pro 2 delivers a highly secure fit. The ear hooks are strategically placed to provide optimal support and stability, while the unibody frame is weight-optimized to ensure that the headphones remain comfortably in place without causing any discomfort. Additionally, the integrated Ni-Ti alloy memory wire provides an adjustable clamping force, guaranteeing a snug fit without the uncomfortable pressure points. So no matter how intense your workout is, you can be sure that your OpenRun Pro 2 will stay securely in place.
Conclusion
Since its release, OpenRun Pro 2 continues to be a popular choice for fitness enthusiasts on the strength of its sound quality, comfort, stability, and open-ear design. And at Shokz, we’re always looking for ways to improve the listening experience.
In order to support the diverse needs of our many users, Shokz has introduced 2 new EQ modes, Classic and Volume Boost, to give the option of a pure bone conduction experience and to improve sound clarity in noisy environments. Both are available in the latest version of the Shokz App. If you’re still experiencing low volume, you should check your phone’s volume protection settings, which may limit how loud your headphones can get.
