Introduction
Congratulations on purchasing OpenDots ONE, the newest open-ear earbuds from Shokz! Featuring an innovative clip-on design and Bassphere Technology, OpenDots ONE delivers a powerful yet versatile listening experience, the perfect sound for any occasion. But how do you wear it? And what are the features that make it so powerful yet versatile? In this article, we’ll cover all the basic controls and capabilities, from pairing to wireless charging, so that you can unlock the full potential of OpenDots ONE.
How to Pair
Shokz makes pairing easy. When you first open the charging case, your OpenDots ONE will automatically enter Bluetooth pairing mode. How will you know if it’s ready to pair? If the indicator light inside the case is flashing orange and green, you’re good to go.
But let’s say you need to re-enter pairing mode so that you can connect to a new device. In that case, place both earbuds into the charging case while keeping the lid open, then press the function button on the back of the case, holding it down for more than three seconds. When the indicator light starts flashing orange and green, you’ll know the earbuds have entered pairing mode. To complete the process, open the Bluetooth settings page on your device and select “OpenDots ONE by Shokz.” You should see a successful pairing message soon after.
Once connected, your earbuds will automatically turn on and reconnect to that same device whenever you open the charging case. Conversely, they’ll automatically turn off and disconnect from your device when they’re stored back in the case with the lid closed.
Please note that the Bluetooth connection will be severed if the earbuds are more than 33 feet from the device.
How to Wear
OpenDots ONE is built to be comfortable and secure. Featuring an open-ear design with Dynamic Ear Detection Technology, they can be worn interchangeably and they leave the ear canal unobstructed, allowing you to maintain situational awareness.
To put on your OpenDots ONE, all you need to do is pinch the JointArc and place the ball-shaped speaker against the inner ridge of your ear and the barrel-shaped battery compartment behind it. You can adjust it based on your own personal preference, but for the ideal fit, we recommend keeping the JointArc between a 0- to 30-degree angle.
While OpenDots ONE is built with a durable nickel-titanium plate, it’s best to avoid bending or stretching it excessively to ensure its longevity.
Touch Controls
There are two types of actions that allow you to control the OpenDots ONE. The first is a “single-finger tap,” in which you tap any area of the JointArc or battery compartment. And the second is a “two-finger pinch,” in which you gently pinch both ends of the battery compartment simultaneously.
To play or pause audio, you can either single-finger tap twice or two-finger pinch twice. This is also how you answer and end calls. If you want to reject an incoming call, all you need to do is two-finger pinch for 2 seconds.
Raising the volume involves the right earbud while lowering it involves the left. A useful mnemonic to help remember this is thinking about the first letter of each word. Right and Raise both start with ‘R’ while Left and Lower both start with ‘L.’ If you want the audio to be louder, simply two-finger pinch the right earbud and hold it for 2 seconds. Doing the same with the left earbud will reduce the volume. For continuous volume increases and decreases, just keep pinching the battery compartment for longer than 2 seconds while the audio is playing.
Want even more control? When you download the Shokz App, you’ll find additional functions that you can customize using either a single-finger tap or a two-finger pinch.
Charging
To charge the earbuds themselves, you just need to place them in the charging case, making sure they’re magnetically secured in each port. If you see the indicator light on the back of the case turn on, then the earbuds are secure and you can close the lid. It’s that simple.
The charging case itself supports both wired and wireless charging, either through a USB-C cable or the charging pad.
Switching EQ Mode
Your OpenDots ONE is equipped with 4 preset EQ modes: Standard, Vocal, Bass, and Private. Each mode has its own specific profile that’s conducive to a particular type of listening. Here’s a rundown of each mode:
Standard Mode provides a balanced sound across all frequencies, with clear vocals, deep bass, and neutral treble. As the name suggests, it can be used as the default setting, versatile enough for just about any music genre, and designed to deliver a well-rounded listening experience.
Listening to your favorite podcast? Check out Vocal Mode. It enhances vocals while slightly reducing bass. It’s best suited for audiobooks and podcasts, but if you prioritize clear vocals above all else in your music, this is the mode for you.
Bass Mode, on the other hand, does the opposite. It de-emphasizes vocals in favor of powerful bass and bright treble. For those who want to hear the instrumentation in their music, whether it’s rock, electronic, or hip-hop, this mode will give it that extra punch.
Finally, there’s Private Mode, designed for those quiet spaces, like airplanes or libraries. By managing high-frequency output, it effectively controls sound leakage so you can enjoy your audio without disturbing those around you.
If you want to know more about the specific aspects of each mode, be sure to check out the Shokz App – you can even customize your own EQ Mode!
Dolby Audio
Another exciting upgrade to OpenDots ONE is the use of Dolby Audio. This range of technologies enhances your listening experience by amplifying the richness, depth, and clarity of the audio while also creating a more immersive soundscape. It’s like being in your own private studio. Hear every beat and every nuance in vivid detail, and get the most out of your entertainment with each listen.
You can activate and deactivate Dolby Audio in the Shokz App. Before doing so, just be sure that your earbuds are connected to your phone.
Conclusion
Congratulations again on your new OpenDots ONE earbuds! We hope this guide helps you maximize your experience, whether you’re jogging around the neighborhood, running errands, or just lazing around the living room. With its sleek, comfortable design and upgraded features, like wireless charging and Dolby Audio, OpenDots ONE ensures that you’re just a clip away from listening paradise.
