#3 Practice allyship.
For those who don’t identify as LGBTQ+, figuring out how to get involved in the movement can be a challenge. If you’re an ally, actively practicing your allyship is a powerful way to help influence change. Being an ally can take many forms, including volunteering, fundraising, and just being a safe space for your friends and family who identify as LGBTQ+. Learn a few different and simple ways you can be an ally from this helpful GLAAD article.
#4 Volunteer.
One of the most impactful ways to celebrate and honor Pride Month is to volunteer with a local LGBTQ+ organization in your community. If you prefer to lend a hand another way, consider giving a donation to a queer organization of your choice to help them further their efforts. Having trouble finding the right volunteer fit? Just do a quick Google search for “nonprofit organizations near me” to find a queer rights organization in your area to get started.
#5 Shop queer-owned brands.
Wear your Pride on your sleeve, chest, backpack, or anywhere else when you shop a queer-owned brand or a branded collaboration. Check out just a few of the best LGBTQ+-owned brands to shop this month and year-round and refresh your wardrobe, home, and everyday life with some color and consciousness! While you’re adding things to your online cart, it’s important to be a vigilant consumer and spot and avoid rainbow washing. Be sure of where you’re spending your money and that the values and efforts of the brands you’re shopping align with the LGBTQ+ community’s concerns and beliefs.
